About Martina

Drawing on the lessons she has learned as a military spouse, mother, sister, and daughter, Martina’s passion for helping people overcome their struggles led her to become a mental health professional. A practicing clinician for 4 years and a therapist at Palmetto Counseling since August 2025, Martina’s approach to therapy is compassionate, practical, and rooted in empathy.

Before entering the counseling field, Martina worked as a liaison for families with the Army to assist them in finding resources and support through situational challenges. This experience, as well as having close relatives who are on the Neurodivergent Spectrum, has given Martina an intimate understanding of the obstacles, resilience, and beauty that come with navigating the unique needs within family systems.

Throughout her entire life, Martina has felt a strong calling to make a meaningful impact on others’ lives—whether through support, encouragement, or simply offering a safe space to be heard. Becoming a therapist has allowed her to live out this calling every day, using both her personal and professional experiences to guide and empower others.

Martina is passionate about working with children as she believes they carry incredible potential, resilience, and honesty. She is especially interested and excited about learning new ways to shape and grow little minds, which stems from her previous work in schools. This passion also extends to working with women and BIPOC communities, as these are spaces Martina understands deeply as an African American woman. Her lived experiences, in addition to her professional training, allow her to connect authentically and respond sensitively to the needs of those who are underserved, marginalized, and overlooked.

With Martina as your therapist, you can expect to work within a warm, down-to-earth, and supportive space that often incorporates humor and opportunities to help you feel at ease and comfortable being yourself. Martina wants her clients to know that she appreciates how we are shaped by our individual experiences, upbringing, and life circumstances, and that needing support is never something to be ashamed of! She believes that therapy is for everyone and that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing. Choosing therapy is a sign of strength; it shows that you are willing to face your situation honestly and take steps toward creating the life you want.

In Martina’s Free Time

Martina’s first love is art! She finds art to be a great way to escape the busyness of the world, offering a place of peace and solace amid the chaos of the day. Artwork allows her to quiet her mind and slow her movements, with the bonus of having something beautiful to look at as a result!

Family is Martina’s greatest motivation. Every day, she works to set a positive example for her two boys. It’s important to her that they see the value of empathy, kindness, and hard work, not only in words but in consistent action. Martina wants her sons to grow up recognizing the importance of treating others with respect and compassion, and hopes that the way she carries herself in both her personal and professional life inspires them to emulate those same qualities!
