Let us help you replace the pain of your past with strength for your future.
What is EMDR Therapy?
Recommended for healing from trauma, abuse, shame, complex grief, and more, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a revolutionary psychotherapy method that uses mind-body energy work to reshape the brain’s processing of traumatic memories or deeply painful life events.
How Does EMDR Therapy Work?
The pre-frontal cortex of the brain supports our higher cognitive functioning (evaluation, reasoning, and decision-making) and typically stores our memories. However, traumatic memories often become trapped within our emotional center, the amygdala, which does not provide the processing capabilities of the pre-frontal cortex.
When untreated, the pain from a traumatic event(s) lives in the body and often impacts your responses to current experiences or conflicts, and can trigger similar emotions as the ones still trapped. EMDR’s technique dislodges these memories and re-processes their associations to positive, affirming self-beliefs.
By recalling the traumatic event(s) while applying eye movement or other bilateral stimuli (such as body movement or tapping), EMDR alters your response to the memory to relocate it to where it belongs and relieves you from its lingering pain.
Our EMDR Therapy Services
We provide EMDR Therapy facilitated by EMDR-specialized therapists at both of our Palmetto Counseling locations, serving the Rock Hill, Fort Mill, and Greater Charlotte Communities.
EMDR has been found to be incredibly beneficial in healing from trauma.
Bilateral stimuli, like walking or tapping, is what makes EMDR so helpful.

What to Expect
Beyond our doors lies a safe, soothing space dedicated to healing from the past and renewal in the future.
The first appointment with your specialized EMDR therapist will be an initial assessment to identify focus areas, discuss your treatment goals, and determine your recommended treatment plan. This will include your recommended session frequency. See our EMDR-trained therapists below.
A major benefit of EMDR is that it takes much fewer sessions to achieve results than talk therapy for trauma alone. Clients may experience relief in as little as six sessions.
With every visit, we are here to help you shed your burdens gradually, enabling you to step into a brighter future, free from the weight of trauma.
Our EMDR-Trained Therapists
Common Areas of Discussion
How we navigate painful events and their severity is unique to every person. We understand that a variety of experiences fall under the umbrella of trauma and that each client’s responses and triggers to these experiences are specific to them and them alone. By facing the traumatic event and its effects head-on, each client’s EMDR treatment is deeply personalized.
Although we recognize that treating emotional trauma is by no means one size fits all, EMDR has proven to be incredibly beneficial for clients who’ve experienced:
- Emotional, Physical, or Sexual Abuse
- Domestic Violence
- Damaging or Complex Relationships (Especially with Primary Caregivers)
- Witnessing Tragic or Violent Events (i.e., Military or Paramedic Trauma)
- A Near-Death Experience or Serious Accident
- Confusing or Complicated Feelings of Grief and Loss
Commonly Targeted Experience
Additionally, EMDR may be recommended for clients who experience:
- Anxiety & Depression
- Addiction
- Chronic Pain
- Low Self-Esteem
Release that trauma that you’ve been carrying with EMDR therapy.
With EMDR, you can let go of past pain, making room for a brighter future.
