About Ryan
Starting with us in September 2024, Ryan Feemster adds 13 years of professional mental health expertise to Palmetto Counseling’s team. With an approach deeply rooted in Jungian psychotherapy and dream analysis, Ryan works with his clients to illuminate the impact of their thoughts and experiences to draw suitable conclusions and reclaim control of their lives. He specializes in helping adolescents, adults, couples, and families with cultural and identity development, with an added emphasis on men and masculine development.
Following his passion for music and poetry, Ryan has found counseling to fulfill the same nameless magic as listening to legendary musicians like Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, and Funkadelic. He considers therapy a sacred space where two humans are given the privilege of traversing the psyche. It’s Ryan’s goal to guide clients in finding their inner healer and in turn, he becomes more aware of himself each time he’s in a client’s presence.
As a member of the Association of Black Psychologists, Ryan uses culturally affirming imagery and mythology to assist his clients in understanding their presenting symptoms and loves to communicate complex dynamics through metaphors. For example, he encourages clients to imagine a river that flows into a wider ocean and the stones or blockages that hinder its path — ultimately, the river will still reach the ocean and become one with the stones. Ryan helps his clients identify the stones along their life path and view them as a part of who they are rather than entities working against them. Meeting each client at their unique point in their journey toward healing, he sees every step along the way as assisting the client to meet all parts of themselves.
Through his holistic approach, Ryan’s clients can expect to dig deep into all elements of who they are and illuminate the tools already within them that will lead to long-term growth.
